Family Information Service
The Dorset Family Information Service provides information to parents, prospective parents, young people and professionals who work with families. The service supports families from pre-birth until their child's 20th birthday (or 25th birthday if they have a child who is disabled).
Section 12 of the Childcare Act 2006 requires Local authorities to provide parents or prospective parents information which falls within two key categories:
- Information about childcare
- Information about other services, facilities or publications which may be of benefit to parents, prospective parents, children or young people.
Sex and Relationship Education Support
This service aims to support schools and academies in their provision of high quality and consistent sex and relationship education (SRE) by delivering a core programme of SRE modules to children and young people. This programme aims to equip young people with the relevant knowledge, attitudes and skills to make informed decisions regarding their sexual health and relationships throughout their lifetime. Young people are encouraged to understand their rights and responsibilities and to respect themselves and others.
The programme is delivered by a range of professionals from statutory and non-statutory health, education and youth sector organisations.
