Providing specialist professional assessment, teaching, advice and training to schools regarding children and young people with specific learning difficulties.
The focus of the SEN Specialist Service is pupil progress and achievement, specifically in the basic skills of language (linguistic) development, literacy and numeracy.
SENSS offers direct specialist teaching for identified pupils as well as advisory support to schools to achieve effective inclusive practice for all pupils with the above needs. SENSS is a traded service and the focus of work in a school is agreed through a Service Level Agreement, charged at an hourly rate. SENSS is also funded to provide some support to Dorset schools for pupils who have complex specific learning difficulties and a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education Health and Care Plan. For more information on funded support please see our page 'SENSS funded support for pupils with complex needs'.
