This half day course will cover the phases of phonics tha should be taught from Y1 (phases 5 and 6).
The afternoon will look at what phonics should be taught from Year One. The session will look at the phases 5 and 6 as detailed in the DfE document ‘Letters and Sounds’ and how these should be taught. We will look at pace, pitch and progression and the importance of this in ensuring children’s progress. There will also be time to explore (and play!) games and activities to use when teaching these phases.
The session is suitable for practitioners working in KS1, but may also be of use to staff delivering interventions in KS2 or fro staff in the EYFS who want to know where children go next.
