Annual English Good Practice Conference with Pie Corbett as Keynote
Fly High with Pie – Transforming Reading and Writing
We have been lucky enough to secure Pie Corbett for this year’s keynote who has been much requested by our Dorset Practitioners! This popular annual event will focus on inspiring approaches to teaching reading & writing.
There will be a range of workshops during the day led by Pie Corbett, Maria Richards (Infinity Literacy) and Chris Caws (Youth Sport Trust). The sessions will explore how to develop children’s love of reading and how this feeds into their writing. Pie will also explore his famous storytelling for writing. Pie Corbett - Key Note: Transforming Reading - what successful schools are doing Pie will explore how successful schools raise standards in reading and score very highly in the SATs, despite being in areas of high deprivation. The session will cover key aspects such as: the central role of reading for pleasure; shared and guided reading; direct teaching of reading; test familiarity and establishing whole school systems.
1. Explore creative resources and strategies for English teaching, with the focus. 2. Consider ways in which innovative practice can improve all pupils’ achievement in reading & writing. 3. Network with colleagues across the LA (and beyond) and return to settings empowered to develop next steps.
