We want to inform you about some changes that are being made to children’s safeguarding out of hours service in Dorset (excluding Bournemouth and Poole).
As of Monday, 5 November, the extended Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) will provide the emergency out of hours social care response for Dorset children and their families when the current contract with Borough of Poole ends.
The current MASH working hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. From 5 November, this will be extended to 7 days a week until 10pm to provide urgent out of hours advice when there’s a concern that a child is at risk of harm. If you believe that a social work response is required to protect a child or young person, please contact the team on 01202 228866 and a Safeguarding Manager will determine what action is required to manage the immediate risk.
If your contact with the MASH is not urgent, please either email the information to MASH@dorsetcc.gov.uk or contact the team by phone on 01202 228866 during usual working hours. Emails may not be read outside of usual working hours as the team will be dealing with urgent matters.
There will be an on-call Safeguarding Manager available by telephone for significant concerns about a child that require an immediate response outside of these hours - but it is essential that they are not contacted unless there is a significant concern that cannot wait until the following morning. If your concern is about the immediate safety of a child, you should initially contact the Police.
Attached is a poster for you to display in your offices. Please share this with any colleagues that may find this useful.
If you have any questions about the new service, please contact the MASH Managers on 01202 228866.
