The Lost Words Update: FREE books for schools

We are delighted to hear the Crowdfunder campaign reported below has been successful! This means that every Primary-phase school in Dorset can be provided with a copy of the book The Lost Words and a copy of the Explorer's Guide for teachers. The books will be ordered and delivered to schools in waves, with the first deliveries taking place after half term.

If your school would like to be part of the first 'wave', you can contact the campaign via the Crowdfunder website to request a delivery.

The Lost Words Crowdfunder campaign

Local conservationist Richard Bradford has launched a Crowdfunder campaign to provide a copy of the book 'The Lost Words' to every Primary school in Dorset. The book takes twenty of nature words that have been dropped from the Oxford Junior Dictionary in the last 10 years and brings them back to life through magical paintings and 'spell poems'.

The book has proven popular with children and adults all over the country since its launch last year. It has been used in schools to stimulate exploration of nature in English, Art and Science - see examples of work

Richard hopes the book will help children across the county to re-connect with these special words and the nature that they represent. The Crowdfunder target is £3,600 which will provide the book and a curriculum-linked Explorer's Guide for 180 schools in Dorset.

Visit the The Lost Words for Dorset Crowdfunder website to support the campaign. Please share the link and poster and support the campaign if you can!
